LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I, Evan Phoenix, stand on the unceded and unsurrendered land of the Indigenous Peoples, whose presence on this land stretches back to the dawn of time. I recognize and honor these communities as the rightful stewards and defenders of this land, whose deep connection to the earth has shaped the history, culture, and spirit of this place.

I pay my respects to the enduring wisdom and generosity of the Indigenous Peoples, who have welcomed many nations to this sacred territory. I commit to amplifying their voices, honoring their teachings, and standing in solidarity with their values and resilience.

I also affirm the inherent and Treaty Rights of all Indigenous Peoples across this land, acknowledging the significance of their rights and the promise of justice. I honor these Treaties, and I honor the rich diversity and strength of the Indigenous communities that continue to thrive.

Finally, I recognize the painful history of colonization, the erasure of cultures, and the oppression of the original Peoples of this land—what we now call Canada. I believe deeply in the power of healing and decolonization, and I walk this journey alongside all of us, united in the pursuit of justice, respect, reconciliation and love.
